Mapping brain changes over time

About:

We are looking for volunteers who are aged 18-32 years, fluent in English and willing to make a commitment to the study over a 12-month period (baseline, 6-month and 12-month face-to-face sessions, plus monthly online questionnaires). We are looking for people who have little or no experience with cannabis to be able to compare brain changes over time with those who use cannabis regularly. We want to know whether changes in the brain are associated with an individual’s feelings, attitudes, behaviours and thoughts about their cannabis use.

What’s involved?

This study is completed over 12-months, involving monthly online questionnaires and face-to-face sessions with a researcher, at three time-points. You will be asked to participate in interviews and answer questions about your health, well-being and experiences with cannabis. You will complete cognitive tasks related to learning and decision-making and participate in MRI brain scans at Wollongong Diagnostics (Corrimal, NSW). We will ask you to abstain from using alcohol and cannabis for at least 12-hours prior to each testing session.

What do I receive?

You will receive monetary reimbursement for your time (minimum $360 over 12-month completion) and a copy of your MRI brain scan. Although there is no personal gain from participating in this study, your participation in this research will aid current knowledge and understanding of why individuals respond differently to cannabis.

How do I join?

To see if this study is right for you, we need to ask a few questions via our online survey. These questions will take approximately 10-minutes to complete and your information will be kept strictly confidential.
