Diane Goodman‘s insight:

This guide suggests how assignments and assessments can be blended to: successfully align with, and support learning outcomes; for inclusivity, to addrees diverse learner needs and aspirations; to scaffold student’s understanding; and to accomodate quality and economy.

There is an excellent table on pg 35 of the file (Figure 1) that marries a broad range of assignments and assessments with the learning opportunities they offer students, and this makes it especially useful for designing and aligning assessments and activities with intended learning outcomes.
